Do homosexual marriages last longer ?

There will always be battles during heterosexual marriages between the sexes because men and women want different things. According to one study, over 40-year span, the divorce rate for heterosexual couples in their 1st marriages is 67%.

Guess what is the divorce rate of homosexual marriages ?

In theory (and many studies have showed), gay/lesbians couples should understand their partners' bodies and biases with a certainty, resulting relationships less mired in deception and friction. However, it turned out that the break-up rate for homosexuals, over a 40-year span, is grim 64%, and gay men are far more likely to split than lesbians.

Well..., we are all Homo sapiens.

51% of women live outside of traditional marriages

According to a New York Times analysis of census results, in 2005, 51% of women in US said they were living without a spouse, up from 35% in 1950 and 49% in 2000.

There are several factors contributed to this statistical shift - women are marrying later or living with partners more often and for longer periods; women are living longer as widows and, staying single longer after a divorce, sometimes delighting in their newfound freedom.

As for men, a larger share of men are married and living with their spouse - about 53%. Men often remarry quickly than women after a divorce.

A new study out of the University of Essex shows that for every 1 inch of height a man has on his rivals, the number of women who want to go out with him increases by 5%.

In addition to discovering that ladies like tall men, the researchers found that dudes dig smart chicks: Women with a college degree bested their less educated counterparts. Thin women also did better than the clinically overweight. Both sexes preferred youthful partners, and non-smokers generally stuck to other non-smokers, showing that people prefer rosy cheeks and rosy lungs. Most significantly, the researchers said, a man's success was dependent upon how he stacked up against the others in his speed dating group; a 5'9 man in a group of 5'6 guys did as well as a 6'2 man in a group of 5'11 guys

How can you tell if a marriage is headed for divorce ?

Let the couple discussing a conflict.

Studies demonstrate that happily married couples made 5 positive remarks for every 1 negative remark when they discussing conflict. In contrast, couples headed for divorce offered 0.8 positive remarks for every 1 negative remarks.

Minds of brides-to-be

59% proportion of brides-to-be who expect to have sex on their wedding night; 28% plan only to sleep, according to a survey of women in 17 states.

16% proportion of brides-to-be who hope to get pregnant right after the wedding.

The return of romance ?

An poll conducted in 2005 by knot ( a wedding web site) found 81% female respondents took their spouse's last name, up from 71% in 2000. Hyphenated surnames dropped from 21% to 8%.
A another survey by Youth Intelligence ( a market research firm) found that 68% of 3000 married and single young women will ditch work if they could afford to.

Is marriage only for white people ?

African Americans are the most uncoupled people in the country, and black child was more likely to grow up living with both parents during slavery days than he or she is today.

The marriage rate for African Americans has been dropping since the 1960s. In 2001, according to the U.S. Census, 43.3% of black men and 41.9% of black women in America had never been married, in contrast to 27.4% and 20.7% respectively for whites. African American women are the least likely in our society to marry. In the period between 1970 and 2001, the overall marriage rate in the United States declined by 17%; but for blacks, it fell by 34%.

Sex with a partner is 400% better

All lovers feel that sexual intercourse with orgasm is better, more satisfying than an orgasm from masturbation alone. But how much better ?

In biology terms, following orgasm, our body releases a hormone called prolactin, which make us feel satiated. In a recent study, (Biological Psychology, vol 71, p312), scientists shown that after orgasm from sexual intercourse, the increase in blood prolactin level is 400% higher in both men and women, when compared with after orgasm from masturbation.

Until death do us apart ?

I know many old couples, my relatives included, after one of them dying, the spouse died within a year. It turned out that anything that is really physically, or mentally disabling to you, it is also harmful for your partner. A recent study (Reuters, Feb. 15) by Nicholas A. Christakis (Harvard Medical School) found that a man's risk of dying increases 22% if his spouse is hospitalized, and woman's risk rises by 16% in the reverse situation.

Drugs and genders

42% vs. 29% - the percentage of risk of suffering major depression that can be attributed to genes, in women vs. Men, according to a study by researchers from Virinia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.

Another study found that Aspirin can reduce men's heart-attack risk by 34%, but it has no impact on men's stroke; for women, Aspirin can reduce their stroke risk by 17%, but it is not effective against women's heart attack. (Source: heard from WBBM780 - a Chicago radio station.)

Currently, when Doctors describe drugs for patients, they don't distinguish men from women. They only distinguish children from adults. Given the fact that men and women having different physical makeup (as shown above), I think we should re-evaluate all drugs to see how different they are when it comes to different genders.

Marrying for money works

A study shows that a person who marries — and stays married — accumulates nearly 2 times more personal wealth as a person who is single or divorced. A big reason married people accumulate more wealth than others is simple economies of scale — one household is cheaper to maintain than two.

For those who divorced, they lose, on average, 3/4 of their personal net worth. This is due to costs associated with divorce and starting over.

TV ruin your sex life

You already know this, don't you ? -- a study by an Italian sexologist has found that couples watch TV in their bedroom have sex 1/2 as often as those who don't. Violent films on TV will put a stop to sexual relations for 1/2 of all couples.

Marriage and life span

Marriages shorten women's average life span by 7 years, in comparision with un-married women. For men, the reversal is true. Marriages elongate their life's span up to 7 years, in comparision with un-married men.

Men are gaining on women in life expectancy

82.6 years is the current women's life expectancy, shown by a study released from Credit Suisse First Boston this week. For men, it is 78.1 years, 4 years short. However, over the last two decades, men have increased their life expectancy at twice the rate of women. Reasons: 1) women are working and getting more stress from it. 2) women took up smoking about 25 years ago and are now dying from it. I guess this is the price of equality between men and women. But experts say men will never catch up, because risky behavior is in their nature.
