Could web pornography prevent rape ?

For few sexually frustrated, bitter, power-hungry males, common sense tells us web pornography may acting as a substitute for rape. Indeed, according to a new study by Clemson University economist Todd Kendall, increased access to pornography is associated with a decrease in instances of rape. By looking at the growth of internet usage around the country and comparing it with crime statistics, Kendall found that at 10% increase in web use correlates with a 7.3% decrease in reports of rape. Kendall notes that there is no similar association between web access and other violent crimes. He also points out that the effect of internet access on sexual crime has been most pronounced in 15 to 19-year-old boys.

On the otherhand,it could actually lead the person to suicide or turn him into a serial rapist or muderer. Then again people who watch porn are only harming themselves.

Disregard for one's own life only leads to a general disregard for other's life. If one cares little for their own rights, quite likely they will adopt the same attitude for other's rights as well.

Internet pornography, I believe, would just creat a greater appetite.

Also, correlation is a weak argument.

But interesting insights, nevertheless.

Pornography, especially violent porn where a woman resists sex but then under the mans influence is subdued, has actually been shown to increase violence against women mostly for a brief period of time but it can also prolong violence against women. It gives men a sense that sex should be available whenever they want it. I think it is also a way of making sex a very impersonal thing..which I dont think it should be... Anyways I really enjoy reading your page it bring up some good points!

I'm not sure about porn preventing rape..if anything it would give men a sense that sex should be available to them when they want it. In my psych class we were discussing this topic and actually in the text it discusses this.. Pornography, and especially violent pornography has been shown to increase aggression and violence against women even for a brief period of time. I also think that it leads people to believe that sex is a very impersonal thing.. anyways I really like you page!!

Rape isn't about sex or voyeurism. It's about violence...PERIOD. This correlation is as absurd as smoking leads to heroin.
Men that rape, are cowards. They are sick and bent on evil. I have a difficult time being a non violent pacifist when it comes to those bastards!

Actually, rape is about controlling someone or a situation.
