I guess the one that stands out to me is that the majority 52% don't want to increase women's rights. We already know that women are 2nd class citizens over there. Doesn't sound encouraging to me.

How would this be possible?

Honestly, I don't find it so surprising that in a country with 40% of the population below the poverty line (US 12%, both according to the CIA world factbook) only 48% of the people find it MOST important to increase women's rights... That doesn't mean the rest doesn't care. Maybe it just means they worry more about getting something to eat?

Aside from the obvious issues with this poll, I would say this generally reflects the feeling on the streets of Iran, and the essential schism at the heart modern Iranian culture.

46% seems very low for the America question, though. Even I'd probably agree with "dangerous and seeks control"- it's a pretty ambiguous statement.

What does worry me is the general tone of this post and its comments. In the age of the mass-communication, how can Americans still act and think in a manner so detached from the rest of the world? You're talking about other human beings who live only a few hours flight away- not incommunicable aliens who can only be learned about through Reader's Digest articles and news reports.

That RD article is wrong on so many levels.
